The Portola District is a great San Francisco neighborhood with mostly single-family homes, some overlooking San Francisco Bay. The neighborhood is named for Don Gaspar de Portola, an 18th century explorer. It is known to have relatively reasonable home prices combined with good access to downtown and highways 101 and 280. There is diversity, an abundance of small shops and restaurants, a variety of architecture, nature, and a new local library branch. All-in-all, it can be considered a nice, up-and-coming neighborhood.
