Bernal Heights can be seen from all over the city, with Bernal Hill as its center. (Bernal Hill is one San Francisco’s most noticeable hills, just south of Potrero Hill.) Bernal Heights real estate is no longer a hidden treasure with good deals on homes; there is a big fan base for Bernal.

Cortland Avenue is the main commercial strip, and it has become the part of Bernal Heights near which everyone wants to live. Cortland Avenue offers shops, restaurants, and bars that are well liked by the local residents. There are a few shops and restaurants on the north slope around Precita Park as well. Some people prefer to live on the north slope and enjoy views of downtown San Francisco. Others like the lively feel closer to Cortland. The west side has excellent views of Twin Peaks and Noe Valley. There is a phenomenal farmers market on the south side at the end of Crescent Street, and the south side of Bernal Hill offers great views down the peninsula.

Bernal Heights has it all, and is only a short walk to the Mission, if serious nightlife is what you are after. There are always several homes for sale in Bernal Heights; it just depends which side of the hill you are looking for.
